Carol had called us out due to water in the crawlspace which was under the entire home. Dampness and having to continuously pump water out of the crawlspace due to a sump pump failure. Her husband took care of these problems in the past, but failing health has made that not possible anymore. Their plumber was a good friend of the family and explained that the crawlspace was in good condition when it was dry. Reluctantly Carol opened the hatch to the crawlspace so I could inspect it, but 3 feet of water made that impossible at that time. I would go back in a month to get as much information as possible once the water was at a much lower level or gone completely. Challenge
Their plumber recommended for them to call Sure-Dry to help fix this problem. After inspecting as much of the foundation as I could, I proposed several solutions to remedy this problem. This crawlspace was completely a sand/dirt floor which had specific solutions that would work with it.Solution
First, we needed to get the water under control with a reliable solution. A complete perimeter SmartPipe System with a TripleSafe Sump Pump System would be able to accomplish this with a 2 pump system and battery back-up also. We needed to install a Turtl Access Point so we could access the crawlspace and get all the materials in there. Secondly, a complete encapsulation would remedy the dampness and smells, in addition to making the entire house more healthy. This process involved Drainage Matting and CleanSpace on the floor, SilverGlo insulation on the walls, and RimTite box sill foam insulation, to keep moisture out and make it completely dry and energy efficient. Lastly, a Sani-Dry Sedona whole home dehumidification air system to keep moisture and mold out of the environment.
After explaining what causes these problems, Carol understood the dirt floor crawlspace was always going to have these types problems, which she has experienced most of the time they owned this home. Our solutions would remedy everything she had dealt with for so many years and to have these types of solutions brought a tear to her eyes as she had no idea we could help her to this extent. She decided to move forward with the entire project as she never wanted her or her husband to deal with this again.
When the installation date arrived, I went there to see how the project was going. Pollo was the foreman on the job and as soon as I arrived he had a big concern about mold damage that occurred to the floor joists. This was resulting in sagging floors and needed to be taken care before we could finish. Fortunately, I had a resource at ServePro that could help get this taken care of. Pollo, explained to Carol that a SmartJack Floor Stabilization System would eliminate the sagging floors and could be installed after the mold was resolved. After all of this, the house is now dry, much more healthy, and energy efficient, but most of all, Carol’s peace of mind was restored, and their quality of life was greatly improved.Project Summary
