Fieldstone Wall Stabilized With EverBrace System in Manitowoc, WI
Challenge
The basement of this 1880's farmhouse was made of field stone and unfortunately lacked drain tile which is used to collect water around the foundation and carry it away from the home. The lack of drain tile had led to failure of the basement walls due to hydrostatic pressure being put on them from the weight of the water.
When a home is built, the soil on the outside of the walls is disturbed and when it’s backfilled, that soil is more loosely compacted than surrounding soils. Water flows through it more freely and begins to build up outside of the wall. The weight of the water and frost exert pressure on the walls and eventually cause them to fail.
These homeowners were looking for a way to stabilize and protect the foundation of their home, while they still had time.
Solution
Our team installed a system called the EverBrace Wall Restoration System that is able to stabilize even in the most severe cases of foundation wall failure. EverBrace is the only option available for fieldstone walls that are failing without having to lift the home and replace the whole foundation. Galvanized steel panels are installed and braced to the floor joists above and bolted to the concrete below. Foam is then injected to transfer the load from the uneven contours of the stone wall to the newly installed EverBrace, stopping further damage to the walls.
Our team finished off the basement repairs by installing a SaniDry Sedona Dehumidifier to control humidity and prevent mold development.
The homeowners were thrilled with the results and very happy they chose Sure-Dry. They were thrilled with the communication throughout the process of their project, loved the 25-year warranty, and were very happy that the work was able to be done without them having to leave the house.
