Challenge

Jay inherited the home from his parents, and he remembered using the basement all the time as a kid, for games, and just having a space to have fun. He said he always remembered the basement being somewhat wet, but he wanted the basement to be dry and usable for the next homeowner. His nephew Ryan is currently renting the home from Jay and may purchase the home soon, he would like Ryan to have a dry basement. Ryan told me it would be great to finish the space and use it for storage and Jay would like to make a safe and dry place to store important items.

The deeper issue was the water that was coming in two main areas in his basement every spring or after a large rainfall. The water would generally come in and spread across the floor causing him to relocate stored items and clean up if necessary. He said it’s caused stored items to get damaged and he is worried that the next homeowner will have to deal with the same issues. The water issues were reoccurring because there was no current drainage system and the property spacing between him and his neighbor’s home was quite close causing little opportunity for water to drain away.
