When I arrived to inspect the finished lower level of the N. home, the carpet was pulled back and drywall removed. Water had seeped in along one wall, getting trapped in the wood, insulation, and drywall causing mold and wood rot. The source of the leak was being addressed in the next few months, but the family needed some immediate relief from the 76% relative humidity that was throughout the entire walkout basement creating a damp, musty, smell and raising concerns about air quality. In addition to being used as a laundry room and rec room with a bar, there was also a bedroom and bath being occupied by a son as well. I set up an Aprilaire 1830 which has the capacity to completely dry out the entire lower level with an EnergyStar rating. Once we had put on a proper dehumidification system in place, the concern about future mold growth and that damp basement smell were put to rest leaving everyone sleeping a little more comfortably.
