Crawlspace, Water Control & Air Quality Issues Resolved in Deerbrook, WI

Challenge

This homeowner in Deerbrook, WI had water issues in the basement since he bought the house 9 years ago and the problems hadonly gotten worse. There was an existing water control system that was not doing its job. It was leaking into the basement and mold was growing heavily behind the system. He would like to do more with the basement, but the water problem makes it difficult for him to have any confidence to do more. His dream is to have a gym in the basement in addition to a dry storage area.

During the inspection, it was discovered that the existing water control system had completely broken down and in conjunction with the existing sump system, it was not doing anything to keep the basement dry. The block walls of the foundation were also showing Stages 1 and 2 of wall failure which was a clear indication that the exterior drain system was not working properly. The humidity level in the basement and the amount of moisture leaking into the basement was perfect for the growth of mold and mildew creating an unhealthy environment.

Solution

The homeowner wanted the water under control first and foremost and was very concerned about the foundation walls. I proposed a brand new, much more capable, and reliable water control system which would not only replace the sump system with one that could handle the amount of water he has to deal with, but also come with a backup system when the power is lost. I also showed him how our Sani-Dry Sedona Dehumidifier system can dry the basement and create a much healthier environment in the entire house. Lastly, I showed him how we can stabilize the basement walls to prevent any further wall deflection and movement.

He decided to do these projects in stages. DryTrak Baseboard Drain System would replace the existing water control system and the TripleSafe Sump Pump system would replace the existing sump pump, and water would be discharged into IceGuard/LawnScape buried discharge lines to prevent freezing in the water and keep the lawn free of discharge hoses year-round. He also added the Sani-Dry Sedona basement dehumidifier to remove the excess humidity and create the healthier environment he wanted. The wall stabilization was put on recommendations for a future project.
