Stopping the Water Falls in the Rec Room in Medford, WI
Challenge
Basement window wells bring light into a basement, but can also bring water. When I entered the finished rec room of the B. family, the fans were busy pushing around some very humid air. Drywall had been cut back to help dry out the wall near two windows that had become a waterfall. Exterior water filled the window, when it finally poured through, running down the wall behind the studs and drywall to trim and carpet below.
Solution
A few weeks later, our production crew returned to install our exclusive Well Duct System under two windows which drains exterior water through the wall and down into our WaterGuard interior piping, which carries water to the sump pump. We also hung up CleanSpace on the wall to provide a permanent vapor barrier which tucks into the WaterGuard. This freed the family to rehang new drywall with no worries of it getting wet again.
The small box unit dehumidifiers that were running were completely overmatched and offered little help with the high moisture aftermath of the waterfall. Before leaving, I installed an Aprilaire 1830 to tackle the high humidity quickly and efficiently. The dry rec room is once again the peaceful, relaxing, and fun place it was designed it be.
