Waterproofing in Three Lakes, WI
Challenge
In the large, walk-out lower level of the family summer cottage in Three Lakes, WI, the flood had subsided and things had been dried out. But the water extracted a high price. The carpet had to be torn out and the tongue and groove cedar wall boards had to be dismantled. These homeowners and their extended family were looking for a permanent solution to never have this happen again.
Our crew at Sure-Dry came out to their cottage to have a look and see what's going on. They discovered that the hydrostatic pressure was so strong that water leaked in at the cold joint where the walls and floor meet, but also seeped up through cracks in the floor, causing substantial water intrusion and damage.
Solution
To fix this devastating problem, I came up with a set of solutions to fix their water problem.
In addition to our patented Water Guard system and Triple Safe Sump Pump, I added a grid of bleeder lines to relieve sub-floor pressure under the wide concrete floor. As with most basements, the humidity was above 60% where mold, mildew, and odors can flourish, so I also added an Aprilaire 1830 Dehumidification system as well.
But there was still one final concern. “The floors downstairs are always so cold,” these homeowners added. We showed her how we could put in our Thermal Dry Insulated Floor Decking system to keep out water vapor and cold earth temperatures, freeing them to put back carpet and rugs without worry.
The lower level is a warmer, dryer space for the visiting kids and grandkids to enjoy for years to come, thanks to Sure-Dry!
